Even Soldiers Dream

Holding Fast

***

Dreams, hope, a bit of ambition—

they’re what get us through, surely ?

Day after day tick tocks by,

the clock never letting up,

and still we hold on—

like men gripping a solid dock

in rough water.

Because somewhere in all of it,

there’s a purpose.

Something that tells us

this life’s worth the effort.

Tick tock time slips,

always does.

But that’s no excuse

to let go of what matters.

We hold on tighter.

Keep our plans close.

Make the most of the moments we’re given,

don’t lose sight

of the things we still want.

Because life rolls on—

through the good,

through the hard—

and it won’t wait for us.

We keep moving.

And maybe, if we’ve done it right,

what we leave behind

means something.

Something that lasts.

Peace

Notes

My poem is about soldiers holding tight to dreams through the passing of time. The soldier’s voice reminds us that purpose isn’t found in ease, but in endurance, grit, and in quiet belief of right.
