_Merriam-Webster Dictionary - Word of the Day
02/04/2026_
A fawn, pale as morning gold,
stands trembling at the treeline,
all legs, all listening,
a small astonishment
stitched from soft umber and breath.
And I, no less creature,
feel myself fawn
before the quiet of it,
not in worship,
but in that rose‑warm way
the heart leans toward wonder
when it recognises
something unguarded.
The fawn blinks,
eyes wide pools of deep hazel,
uncertain whether to trust
the clearing or the sky.
I blink back,
uncertain whether to trust
my own tenderness.
Yet here we are,
two beings learning
how to stand without armour,
how to fawn without losing
the wild, earth‑brown truth
that made us.
