Maybe

Maybe I was foolish—

for you held no sight of me.

Maybe I was the one who wandered too far ahead,

imagining what was never there.

Maybe no spark ever lived

in that wilderness of your heart. Maybe I was selfish,

to wither inside that cozy illusion.

Maybe it was only I

who longed for something more.

Maybe none of it was ever true.
