TOLD ME TO SHINE

by That_Girl_Who

They told me to shine As they build cities of dark, And towns without hearts And people who think It’s okay to be hard On everyone they meet To make themselves feel better About all the ways they are weak They told me to shine While the gutters overflow With the filth they refuse to see, While their mouths spit rules That even they Can’t follow While they trade mercy For a throne made of fear, And call it justice, Call it progress.
