Men think it with a hopeful grin

No matter what I wear,

Loose sleeves, big shoes, small skirts

Their guesses fill the air.

 

Women say it sharp with scorn,

Like judgment dressed as care,

A word they toss across a room

As if it’s mine to bear.

 

Girls whisper it with envy

And a little bit of fear,

Testing out the sound of it

Whenever I’m too near.

 

They say it like a statement,

Like something plainly seen.

But I say it with a question mark

I’m only fourteen
