After

after the door closes

after the light changes

after the last footstep fades

something stays

not me

not you

not us

a warmth

with nowhere to go

as if

left behind

for whoever

might enter

it hovers near the ceiling

settles on the furniture

waiting

that is what warmth does

when it has nowhere else

to be
