i am sorry

that we have succumbed

to whatever it is that has hunted us

so

skillfully .

 

 

[ but i cannot apologize for what i have

known :

though it slips from me now,

as in waking to find

the room different

and

empty;

nor can i

do so

for the ways inwhich i have been,

though

they seem

already

gone.

 

 

and the everyday-ordinary-

hollowed-out-

thing

desiccates in

 

place

.
