The Heiresses

The richest women in the world

Are heiresses

Not scientists, not writers

Printing bestsellers on their terraces

But heiresses

To giants, thrones, and names

And you are an heiress

Of fear and pain.

- Poeteia

***

This one needs explanation, particularly regarding the last line

1. They are the heiresses of L’Oréal, Walmart, Mars… who inherited the companies from their parents or through divorce.

Even one of the greatest writers, Joanne Rowling, isn’t one of the Forbes 100, far, far from them. So nothing to say about less successful writers or scientists.

Look around. If a woman is rich and successful, ask who her parents are, or her husband is.

2. The last line is about this - epigenetics has discovered that strong fear can be passed on to offspring.

So what fears had we inherited from our ancestors?

And what will we pass on to our children?
