Paper

It hears all yet does not reply

Knows my woes but not my plight

Remembers all and immediately forgets

Shoulders the burdens I would not share

Mother's kiss and father's word

Lovers' smile and friends' worth

It can draw lines from sealed lips

Conjure images from scattered dreams

And give voice to the silent and mute

Hope to the beaten and hurt

A taste of victory however small

Or defeat if you're honest at all

It might speak if you listen close

Inspire if you continue to pour

From one bottomless well to another

Till thirst is sated and appetite recovered

For all the wonders it does not understand

And all the pain it could never bear

Just give it you as you know you are

And I promise it will not judge

And if you ever come back to read it again

After the ink has dried, aged and sat

Cry, laugh, question and reminisce

Accept the pause of the paper

That little moment of peace
