Sunstruck

Long has this night fallen

Yet still I lie awake

Tired, drenched and distracted

Recalling that spring day

When the winds were cooler

And the grassblades stood fresh

Under shady shelter

Where the sunfires burned less

And so I reminisce

Think best not to complain

About the heat and sweat

The bothersome today

I choose to think of then

Smiling, hearing you laugh

A warmth like never since

Maddeningly in love
