Finally Home

You are standing on a beach.

The sand is warm and soft beneath your feet.

The sun is out.

The sky is a clear, brilliant blue,

with only a few delicate white clouds

resting at the edges.

The air is just right

not hot, not cold

and there’s a light, soothing breeze.

You can smell the salt on the wind.

Out in front of you,

the water glows a soft turquoise.

The waves dance in the light,

each crest catching the sun

like scattered diamonds.

You begin to walk toward the water.

When it reaches your ankles,

you don’t feel a shock of cold.

You don’t feel heavy.

You just feel… right.

Step by step,

your edges begin to soften.

Your color shifts to match the sea.

Your shape loosens,

until you are no longer separate.

You melt and meld into the ocean

held, weightless,

completely at peace.

You are not lost.

You are not gone.

You are part of something vast and gentle

that has been waiting for you

all along.

You are finally home.
