What a lovely sentiment

Friendship is a sacred bond

Or so I have been told

But we shared something more-

Yet this is the end of our lore

I know I can’t have you

So, I just wanted to tell you

May you find someone better

Who can write more love letters

someone who looks better than me

and can make you laugh more than I ever could

A golden tree in the middle of your woods

Something I never understood

For me more misery awaits

Because I doubt my faith

to ever find a girl with better traits

Is this how love gods dictate?

We started as schoolmates

While I dreamed of becoming soulmates

But love is a game of fate

And now I can’t even get your updates

I know it was my fault

I should have kept our friendship -as it was

but the greed for more

caused you to walk out the door

but do you really think

this is how we should end?

Enemies that were once friends

Like a broken thread’s loose ends.

Loving you has made me a soldier

A soldier in the open battlefield

Facing bullets from my own trench

With my heart firmly clenched

And my hand blood drenched

I ask – Can we just be friends

It’s a painful sentiment

But it helps me relent

For this war of love

Our friendship is what

I’ll die for
