Once I slept on eiderdown
Now it’s thrift store cotton
The wealth I knew was a mirage
And my fame is all forgotten
I had a way to ride the wind
And loved the place it took me
But soon enough the weather calmed
And my breezy ride forsook me.
I had to sell my emeralds
And my designer evening gowns.
I didn’t get a worthwhile price
For my two gold and jeweled crowns.
I see myself at eventide
With the sun now sinking fast
I’m living now in slower times
And seeking things that last
I ask would I do it all again
That’s something I can’t say
I did some bad but I did more good
That’s my scorecard for today.
