At seventeen,
I went into the infantry,
Him and I,
And two others,
Their idea not mine,
Unbeknownst,
He switched his contract on me,
Lo and behold, I shipped alone.
Reunited during Christmas vacation,
At a house party back at home,
" Show some respect" is all he piped,
If someone didn't call a girl "ma'am,"
If a hoodlum didn't shake hands,
Didn't stand up straight,
Didn't properly throw his beer away,
"SHOW SOME RESPECT"
He did this all night, thirty beers deep,
" Hey Eddie dont you want to get some sleep?"
" Thamps ma'am I am awight. "
In his goose flesh high and tight,
Ripping butts near the stove,
The girls went to bed,
" Sow sum respuct."
Who he was talking to,
They didn't know,
The sun came up,
And the girls wanted French toast,
One girl gasped,
Still standing there,
" Mormon m'aams."
As his widows peak was singed,
And his eyebrows and lashes gone,
In a wobbly binge,
With a backwards ciggerette t'ween his lips,
" Youz haz a lightah?"
" No the fu@k we dont Eddie,
get the hell to bed,"
Somewhere, a dog began to bark,
He grabbed the blinds to inspect,
" HEY, WHATL ERM, ..SHOW sum RESPECT."
