I'm ok
I’m OK
by Helene / Morning Star
He—like me—is a product of others
But somehow, he holds his head high
While I hold mine in shame
He has a way—
A way of coping
Of holding back
Of letting things slide
But I?
I feel like the doormat
Soaked in rain,
Lying forgotten in a drain
He softly asks me questions
I don’t understand
And when I'm away from him
How fast the thoughts consume me
So I rush to be okay—
To be bright, be fine,
So he won’t choose to leave me
Or fade me from his line of sight
So I stay strong.
And silent.
Put on the face that says: I’m fine
So he won’t see
The fear, the sorrow—
And feel the need to walk away
I’ve just got to be
“normal”
And pretend—
I’m okay
Song Structure:
Verse 1 → "He—like me—is a product of others..."
Pre-Chorus → "He softly asks me questions / I don’t understand..."
Chorus → "So I rush to be okay... / Just got to be normal and pretend..."
Bridge → Whispered or half-spoken: "Strong. Silent. Fine."
Final Chorus → Repeat “I’m okay…” like a fading mantra
