On the Sabbath
Who told you they’d be out
because the blacktop is hot?
Whose light was used
to find it slithering
where you swore
it would be not?
Who sacrificed
their personal belongings
to catch
then release?
Who talks and talks,
knowing not true facts,
wielding data that is
incomplete?
Who listens to redrum music?
Who’s the one doing The Shining?
Ooooh… that’s me.
I caught the baby Mojave,
rattling green.
Who?
Michael A. Pettigrew
took a rod,
wrapped the poisonous rattler,
and made it stare
terror in the face.
That old serpent
he deserves
to live in fear
with grace.
And on the Sabbath day,
these events
took place.
