i grew diffident as you grew blue
unlike those woebegone children
with expressions crying cries of help
your face stated nothing

mornings and nights went by cryptically
words were replaced by stares
and stares were replaced by dead air
i say "probably" because it doesn't matter;
the minutiae of the minutiae of the minutiae, probably
