Would I were to do this wrong
Where I would stop and travel on
I reckoned long some years before
Half drowned in dream at the river floor

A hundred miles from our rainy night
Thunder lightened the world's sight
I felt a whisper wrapt in tears
And I ain't been home 'till the weather clears

Myself could else remember then
To wake beside the water again
A lonesome end to our Autumn night
That was our love if we held it tight

I never found your arms again
It hangs my head to know you when
By chance I'll see you nears the end
When all you asked was a loyal friend
