The Pig
A pig, skin rippled into frigid furrows,
on the tail lift of a van outside the butchers
the driver, a dispassionate pallbearer,
hefted it onto his shoulder
and the pigs eyes caught mine
clouded with the question
of a fate it had not anticipated.
