Today is the Feast of Saint Philip and James
For the sake of this poem let’s shorten their names

Let’s start with Saint Philip,
let’s call him Saint Phil
He was one of the 12 that let his love spill
“Come and see! Nathanael! Meet Jesus, he’s brill!”
“He chose me! Come join me! Let’s both walk uphill!”
They spread the good news & bowed down to God’s will
Then the enemy wanted to ****

Now let’s touch on Saint James,
let’s call him Saint Jame
He was one of the 12 that rose up to fame
Seems faith without works is just a blame game
Said gold and silver will burn you in flame
Then the enemy wanted to tame

Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water
James and Phil went up the hill to feed them fish from water
King Charles fell down and broke his crown, his soul came tumbling after
The Saints fell down but rose with crown;
a God given crown for each martyr!

James the Lesser and James the Just
Is the same man we ought to trust
He told us what would turn into rust
Let’s do the right thing before turning to dust!

Saints Philip and James;
Let’s remember their names!!

Happy Feast of Saints Philip and James!
Holy Spirit baptise you in flames!

Every line of this poem is deliberate and intentional, including the Jack and Jill nursery rhyme.

Look up the history if you don’t get it.
