What do we have in this world
If not your word?
Don’t we owe it to ourselves
To do everything in our power
To keep it?

That’s the problem these days isn’t it
We throw words around
like they mean
nothing
like they’re just sounds
empty and unkept

In the past they spoke of honour
“You have my word”
That meant something
It wasn’t just a promise
It was a reflection of a soul
carved into the very being

but now,
if we can’t even
keep promises to ourselves
if words are just words
meaningless, hollow
Then what are we left with?

what do we have
in this world
If not our word?
