We are the restless clouds that sift through night
That speed and veil the graceful midnight moon
That pass across the stars, small jewels bright
We are two clouds dressed in soft, snow-white plume

But even as we pass, we seem a pair
O, most unfit and frightful, so I’d say
But e’en such thoughts won’t ever ***** love’s flare
But e’en such thought won’t e’er veer love away

We are the restless clouds that break the mere
Of sky, a perfect, untouched pane of blue
That pass the forests, that in our flight tear
The lands, supine, the meadows cloaked in dew

We pass with the cool winds of purest dream
We are two clouds that soar most high above
Each valley and each shadow-swallowed stream
We are two clouds, bound with the force of love
