The Road
The car silently speeds down the dark road
Eyes. It seems like thousands
Suddenly they blink in the path
The car swirls like a hurricane
Finding its way to the shoulder
Then it is all silent again
Snow gently falls on broken glass
The eyes are now unblinking
Only thereβs two now
They lay open on the cold asphalt
The ground smeared with blood
What have you done?
Could you not step away from it?
Could you not stop yourself?
You drag the deer to the side of the road
You want to cover your ears as the antlers scrape the ground
A horrible noise.
What have you done?
How could you have not seen it?
How could you have not known?
It did nothing to you.
