THE CARTOGRAPHER TRIES TO MAP HIS WAY BACK
THE CARTOGRAPHER TRIES TO MAP HIS WAY BACK
the Past has no colour
Time
has abandoned it
it is soft
to the touch
then: rough
the compass
does not know
which way to turn
"Is there no map
to take us back
to before
we stepped into
the photograph
what was that
misheard Donne thing?
"...about must and
about must go..."
"NNW?"
( the mind's guess )
Time
has no colour
the Past
has abandoned it
*
On a huge hill,
Cragged and steep, Truth stands, and he that will
Reach her, about must and about must go,
John Donne - SATIRE 111
