Sadly,
hoping,
wishing,
tenderly.

All through the night, I hear the howls
of a wolf's heart pounding away
without the predator's angry growl,
looking for fate to sway its stay.
Sometimes the hooting of the owl
is on hold until the very next night....

Your absentee is noticed as warmth is removed
as the car battery conks & there goes ignition
the heater turns off as the car won't start over.

Sometimes a spark of magic can ignite
and the wires will spark that little flame,
while frosted windows are lost in little details
and you can hear a beast searching the trails.
