I used to think I loved you.
Every little moment of joy,
I could imagine you smiling with me
Then, I opened a textbook
All about Biology,
And I read,
And read,
And read,
And couldn't stop.
this was true love, I just knew it.
So the book came everywhere
And every moment of joy came from flipping
Another crisp page,
The scent of clean, glossy paper
Wafting into my nostrils,
Boosting serotonin levels,
Firing neurotransmitters,
While my mitochondrion produced
Adenosine Triphosphate,
Or ATP.
But I didn't love the book.
I enjoyed the knowledge, the learning...
But it wasn't what I wanted deep down.
In the depths of that ***** that pumps blood,
I was trying to replace you.
