Trusting

Divided and broken,

my heart shatters softly,

no ears to listen,

to my melancholy.

I scream, though silent,

as I fall through the dark,

nightmares whisper,

the landscape stark.

I feel the stab,

of a sword through my back,

and wonder if I could have,

foreseen the attack.

But blindly I trusted,

no heed to danger,

believing the good,

and smiling at strangers.

My trust is misplaced,

I'm not watchful, they say

I wish I'd listened,

they said it would end this way.
