"SO....THE DAYS HAVE WORN AWAY...HAVE THEY?"

she rocks into & out of
the light
the naked bulb is merciless

she
a Miss Havisham
her mind in flames

she lets the Dickens fall
from her lap
"So...the days have worn away. . ."

she looks into the darkness
the darkness stares back
the kitten mews

heavy rain
persistent door bell
in competition

the rain stops
the door bell continues
only the kitten hears

Death leaves the room
without looking back
the door bell stops

the rain begins again
harder than ever
the kitten cries to be fed
