Memory's sanctum, you I'll keep,
In due course, vacated,
As if our parting weighed my soul, --
Yet as a whisper fading;
A love, perhaps, that was never found,
Like a stone to wreath, --
Best unspoken by mortal numeral.

Hiraeth

In twilight's advent, your face I'll see,
The softest kiss, my last farewell in flight,
A dream that once was, now absorbed, --
Dissolved in endless night too soon,
Kept in the vast expense of what was lost,
A yearning stirs, my friend,
For a home that was, where love's tempest tossed.
And so he asked me to forgive. Troubled, I looked beyond the night sky and whispered, "perhaps it's better to forget..."
