so how do we decide
us kids who stand apart
what fragments of our pasts to hide;
what to keep close to our hearts

how are we to let go
of all we’ve left behind
how are we to always know
what to say and what to hide

how do we look forward
when our souls are still weighed down
how do we get closer
when there’s no one close around

tell me how do I let go
of memories that I love
how am I to always know
when my mind has had enough

tell me how do we decide
us kids who stand apart
what it means to be ourselves
with divergence in our hearts

tell me how do I keep breathing
when my breath is pulled away
tell me how do I keep sleeping
when i cannot tell the night from day

so tell me how do we stay strong
us kids who stand apart
how do we stay beautiful
and keep divergence in our hearts?

tell me, do I have it right?
can i whisper to you how;
the way that I will stay so bright
is to forget tomorrow, for it is now.
