Rock
I.
The rock is solid, embraced by clammy roots
extending up to meet the strong resisting
anchor, nestling there against bad weather.
II.
To lick rock candy beneath a bridge,
below the flow of traffic, beside the flow
of muddy water, is to be in love.
III.
The rock is hypothetical: in shape,
a pear; in size, big as a lawyerβs fee.
More than a dim idea, it conjugates.
