I wish not to sleep.
Because when I do,
I’m trapped in my dreams.

The haunting images,
The terrifying sounds,
I can never escape.

I call out for help.
But no one responds;
There’s no one around.

The darkness engulfs me.
The shadows swallow me,
I’m never to surface.

And it’s only then,
That there is a light,
And I see your face.

Reach out and grasp my hand,
I beg of your embrace,
My hero, my saviour.

Your grasp slips from mine.
The darkness returns,
Your light fades away.

It’s then that I awake,
Screaming in a cold sweat,
Struggling to catch my breath.

I then remember.
I’m here on my own,
And you’ve disappeared.

When that time comes around,
You walk into my life,
The nightmares will cease.
