Today when I hear your voice
It sounds so smooth, so perfect, so calm.
You are content and filled with joy,
You are at peace with yourself.

It is today I realize that the last battle is lost
as you head into the future.
I eat the dust you leave behind,
my tears form a rainstorm.

Tonight I go home and cry.
I cry for what you mean to me,
I cry for how perfect you are, and
I cry that it is not I who brings you joy.
