Sep 2013
you loved me when i couldn't love myself
when I sobbed for a reason i couldn't put into words
and feared the pitiful void in my chest would swallow your light.
on the nights when i feel like a gathering storm,
my stomach a sinking ship and my heavy hands unworthy of being held,
you wrap your arms around me even tighter than usual
and in spite of the stubborn smudges lingering on your shirt
from every instance i found sanctuary enveloped in your limbs,
you still wipe the mascara away from my eyes.
even on my worst days
you press your lips against my forehead and my salty cheeks.
