Thunder peals as we take shelter from the storm
in a flooded dugout muddy footprints wash away imparting memories
settling the quiet space between.
A hollowed trunk our hands carve pointed sterns giving shape
navigating our hearts through shallow puddles.
Her enraptured laughter funneling the late summers rain.
