Abraham, Friend of God
In the book of Genesis is recorded
The life and times of Abraham,
A man of great faith,
The Father of Israel, the Jewish race.

Abraham's life of ups and downs,
Began in Ur, a Chaldean town.
By faith he obeyed God's commands.
At the age, 75, traveled to another land.

By faith he followed God's directions,
Not knowing the exact destination.
Many spiritual lessons are taught by his life
Of how to live holy in a world of strife.

His wife's name was Sarah,
A beautiful woman was she,
Giving birth to Isaac,
At the advanced age of ninety.

In Abraham we see in type.
The vicarious death of Jesus,
By which He suffered the debt of sin,
For every one of us.

Abrham offered up his son, Isaac,
In obedience to God's command
Upon the altar of sacrifice,
But God stayed his hand.

In like manner on Calvary Hill,
On the altar of eternal sacrifice,
The only Begotten Son of God,
For humanity, laid own His own life.

"For the joy set before Him"
Jesus lovingly before our sins,
So that by is stripes, we might be saved,
By simple sincere faith in Him.

Abraham believed God's promise,
Of receiving a son through his wife,
And "staggered not in unbelief"
Even though he was very old in life.

And so, the plan of salvation,
Is simple and plain.
As Abraham was declared righteous,
Even so, unto all who believe in Christ,
Will be declared the same.
