Dec 2021
Mirrors mock lost dreams of a distant night
Deepening frost tempers the haughty brow
Quiet patience befriends Time's eternal chain
A darkening vigil guards the morrows now.

Silence endures an agonised moment's cry
Barbed memory stings, still drawing blood
Anxious lids in vain, despairing try
From prying eyes to shield the surging flood.

Sorrow exploits dumb Silence's willing trust
As faltering smiles attempt the world to cheat
Trampled emotion now seeks a healing touch
Despair and Hope in equal measure meet.

In passing, callous Time looks back
An indifferent glance, yet something holds it still
Perhaps it hears the anguished call
Of a Dawn searching a Night to ****.

A remembered grace tortured limbs embrace
Fatigue a moment steps aside
Listless fingers the worn fabric caress
Another smile gestures to stem the tide.
