Scarecrow
A field dry and yellow,
Each step breaks beneath foot,
Each sunrise absorbs more life,
Each pair of eyes marks death,
The black feathers call,
Contrasting the drape of earth,
Destined for something worse,
Inevitable as God’s eye,
Watching,
Waiting,
Knowing,
Showing through.
