Twisted branches wrap around
   seeking out the light
      yet shadows fleeting now surround
         in shades of deepest night
Streetlamps shimmer in the rain
and under the rain clouds glow
hidden moon changing, yet always the same,
         guarding the world below.
The stars shine out in contrast
as the clouds now sighing clear
they will be there to the last
A gentle gift to stave off fear
The strength of the stars will fade
   as the dawn comes anew
men rejoice to see the sun
But day-blind stars still sing hope too
