the doctor places all the pills
close atop the medical bills
she always drinks the juice

death comes every morning
three quick knocks for warning
she ponders on her youth

family comes and then family goes
blurred in the window from winter snows
she understands the truth

death comes every morning
three quick knocks for warning
she didn't touch the juice

       knock.
              knock.
                     knock.

I've never seen such a sad
smile in my life
