I always thought I wrote poetry
long before I had intellectual friends of a-
higher caliber, in both senses of the word
I always thought I wrote poetry
long minutes I spent writing half-hearted heart-felt swill
Oh no, I thought I was oh so deep
using words like
light
        fright
                  care, and
                                  cry
I always thought I wrote poetry
what a fool I must have seemed
what a fool I always seemed
I stood so high and bright in the purposeful shadows of
Teen Angst;
Oh its so cool to be a fool it seems, I just might try it,
but when everything is heartbreak and betrayal...
I always thought I wrote poetry,
what a fool I must have seemed.
