With nothing left to say
I must walk away
But every step I take
It cuts like a knife
I’ll never hear my name
On your lips again
I’m not forever in your heart

And tho i tried so hard to keep you close to me
I couldn’t make you stay
You just wouldn’t fall
So I must start again in the morning rain
But I’ll keep you safe in my heart

You were the one
Who made me feel
Like every dream I’d ever had
Was surely coming true
But every day
You backed away
Till my arms just couldn’t reach you

But I recall a time
With your hand in mine
And your eyes like wine
Went straight to my head
Trembling close to you
My shirt covered you
As I clung to you
In an unmade bed

But now the city lights
And the carefree nights
They have taken you
And made you their own
And I must watch you dance
To another’s tune
But I’ll keep you safe in my heart

You were the one
Who made me feel
Like every dream I’d ever had
Was surely coming true
But every day
You backed away
Till my arms just couldn’t reach you

With nothing left to say
I must walk away
But every step I take
It cuts like a knife
I’ll never hear my name
On your lips again
I’m not forever in your heart

And on that day of days
When I am asked to say
What was the role you played
And what was her part
I’ll close my eyes and know
I didn’t let you go
I always kept you
Safe in my heart.
My love I’ve kept you
Safe in my heart
