Well the moon’s got t’wearin’ ‘er halo
But an angel she ain’t t’night
She wears black velvet when the day goes
And diamonds scattered, sparklin’ bright

Yon nimbus portends a bleak story
Temp’ture’s gonna go way low
The crops might a’ready be hoary
From the tender seed we did sow

There’s gonna be a haaaaar-hahaaaar-arrrr-hahaaaaard
There’s gonna be a hard frost t’night
There’s gonna be a haaaaar-hahaaaar-arrrr-hahaaaaard
There’s gonna be a hard frost t’night

Pa broke his back on the tract’r lever
His sons never came back from the war
And Ma ain’t recovered from The Fever
So the daughters ain’t virgins n’more

Ain’t no one gonna make an early harvest
T’will be a miracle a thing survives the night
What’s only left is to pray our hardest
Waiting for the glow of warm daylight

There’s gonna be a haaaaar-hahaaaar-arrrr-hahaaaaard
There’s gonna be a hard frost t’night
There’s gonna be a haaaaar-hahaaaar-arrrr-hahaaaaard
There’s gonna be a hard frost t’night
