Jul 2020
once, there was a bird inside my house
blue tailed and yellow bellied
not big enough to be much of anything at all
i had to hold it in my hands to let it out
it was so light i couldn’t feel anything but its taloned feet
digging softly into my palms
and perhaps the sharpest parts of ourselves
make the only impression that lasts.
