If I reach out in the night for you
It’s only because I long for you.
But lately you haven’t been there
For me and so when I reach out
It’s my pillow that comforts me.

You say you’re going through
Some changes and tough times,
Well I can understand that from you,
But you forget that when I signed
On it was a partnership; the captain
And her crew!

If my ship sinks I will not abandon her
To suffer the cold dark depths of her
Seclusion alone!

That is how I think of you
When I’m left alone in my darkened
Room, alone in my ship as it touched
Bottom deep beneath the ocean’s blue.

And you’re the explorer with your
Expedition that came and saw me
As a wreckage with sunken treasures
To exploit as parts of me are recovered.

But no longer!  I refused to be that way.
So, if one night I reach out for you, well
You better be there, my love—because
One day I will give flight and I’ll be
Free just like a dove.
