Six am
manhole cover ghosts,
street urchins
answering the whisper
of tires on wet asphalt
in mid winter
not yet cold
as we say goodbye
in the back
of Dad’s Buick Eight
him wondering
who’s at fault
while you hold me
and watch
the urchins evaporate
