I Wish I Were Not So Patient

I wish I were not so patient.
Always waiting for my turn,
Letting people go in front of me in line.
I am so patient I have sat for hours end
In the doctor’s office, waiting
To listen and nod to things I can’t comprehend.
I am so patient I have sat in traffic for 7 hours straight,
Never moving a muscle even though I had things to do.
If there were an award for sitting at home all day,
I would have won it the day I was born
Because the doctors would have diagnosed me
With extremely extreme patience.
