If I had to do it all over again
I would have snuck out
of my bedroom window
and done poorly in school
when it didn't really matter.
I would have been restless.
Endlessly hopelessly romantic.
I would have covered my room
with pictures of my would-be favorite
punk 80's rock bands
and told my dad off
when he offended gays.
Gotten my belly button pierced.
Rebelled.
If I had to do it all over again,
I would have been myself
in the beginning
when it all mattered.
