Waiting ever so
Patiently
To remind them.
With deep conviction
In their eyes
Wanting to
Tell them softly,
I did the best I could.

The best I could

Gazing up at them
As they motioned toward
The hallway.
The tension was clinging.

The best I could

Trying to bypass it
With a lazed shrug.
They started to get
Antsy
Picking at their pocket.
They focused
On the worn floor.

The best I could

A cough stifled the air.
Turning attention away
As it was becoming
Unbearable.

The best I could

Taking one last,
Lingering look at them.
Watching,
As they gathered up the bags
Proceeded to walk
Determinedly
Through the door
And...
Out of my life.
