She could see the signs
On the highway
Listening to the voice
On the radio
Shes a working girl
Who loves the Lord
Because The Bible tells her so
In the rearview mirror
She sees the lights
And a life of prostitution
They say he works in mysterious ways
And that's where she found religion

We live our lives
Because it's all that we have
We're all guilty of something
We've all killed the fatted calf
It doesn't matter what we do
We're all going to have to
Pay the price one way
It doesn't matter how long it takes
We're all gonna be with The Man one day

He was sitting in a barstool
Whispering to the bottle
Because it's his only friend
He's got no job
And lost his home
Because pity doesn't pay the rent
Between the smoke of a tailpipe
He sees the girl he left behind
Now hes seeing The Lord in his drink
Living in the land of the blind

We live our lives
Because it's all that we have
We're all guilty of something
We've all killed the fatted calf
It doesn't matter what we do
We're all going to have to
Pay the price one way
It doesn't matter how long it takes
We're all gonna be with The Man one day
